Heavy Equipment Cleaning
Shazam Detailing provides mobile heavy equipment cleaning across Nashville and Middle Tennessee, washing and degreasing excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes and haul trucks at your yard, shop or storage lot. The crew travels roughly 30 to 50 miles out from Nashville, works from 2348 Industrial Drive in Greenbrier, TN, and has been cleaning equipment since 2001.
Pricing Starting at: $55
What does heavy equipment cleaning cost?
Price follows machine size, how much grease and packed material is present, and whether the undercarriage and engine bay are in scope. Off-road iron is quoted after a look.
| Machine Class | Typical Scope | How It Is Priced |
|---|---|---|
| Skid steer, mini excavator, compact track loader | Exterior, undercarriage, cab, glass | Quoted per unit |
| Excavator, dozer, loader | Exterior, boom and stick, undercarriage, engine bay, cab | Quoted by size and condition |
| Haul truck, water truck, support truck | Exterior, bed or body, wheels, cab interior | Work truck pricing starts at $50 to $400 |
| Engine bay and driveline degreasing | Add-on to any machine wash | Quoted by condition |
| Multi-machine yard or rental fleet | Recurring or batch cleaning on site | Per-unit rate after a walk-through |
What does heavy equipment cleaning include?
Scope is set by the machine and why you are cleaning it. A typical visit covers:
- Full exterior wash of the body, boom, stick, blade, bucket, counterweight and cab
- Undercarriage cleaning: tracks, sprockets, idlers, rollers, track frames and the packed material between them
- Degreasing of pins, bushings, cylinder bodies, hydraulic lines and grease-heavy pivot points
- Engine bay and radiator area cleaning, including debris packed into cooler fins and screens
- Wheels, tires, rims and wheel wells on rubber-tired machines
- Cab interior: floor and mats vacuumed, seat cleaned, dash, controls, joysticks and switch panels wiped
- Glass cleaned inside and out, including the lower windshield an operator can never see through
- Steps, handrails, catwalks and access points cleaned so they are safe to grip
- Decals, serial plates and safety labels cleaned rather than scrubbed off, so the machine stays properly marked
- Bed and body cleaning on haul trucks, water trucks and support units
Shazam Detailing uses only the highest quality soaps, tools, and materials. The wrong chemical on a hydraulic seal, a wire harness connector or a decal set creates a repair bill, not a clean machine.
How do you degrease tracks, undercarriage and engine bays?
Degreasing is a chemistry and dwell problem, not a pressure problem. Heavy grease mixed with clay and rock does not blast off cleanly. It has to be broken down, given time to work, then removed.
On undercarriages, that means loosening and flushing packed material out of the track frame, sprocket pockets and roller area, then working the grease-bearing surfaces with degreaser and agitation. On engine bays the approach is deliberately more conservative. Equipment OEM service literature generally warns against putting concentrated high-pressure water near seals, bearings, wiring connectors, ECMs and sensors, so those areas are cleaned with controlled pressure, hand work and product rather than by pointing a wand at a wire loom. The goal is a bay a technician can read, not a bay full of water. Radiators, oil coolers and charge air coolers get their own attention, since fins packed with dust and oily film are a cooling problem long before they are an appearance problem.
If your site has requirements for how wash water is handled, say so when you call.
Does clean equipment really sell for more?
Yes, and anyone who has sat through an auction ring knows it. Buyers cannot inspect what they cannot see. When a machine rolls across the block with mud packed in the undercarriage and grease weeping down the boom, the bidder assumes deferred maintenance and discounts for risk.
A cleaned machine does the opposite. Legible decals, a clean cab, dry pins and a visible undercarriage let a buyer verify condition instead of guessing at it. That matters even more in photographs than in person, because a listing photo is the only inspection most bidders will ever perform. Plan pre-sale cleaning far enough ahead that you can also touch up what the cleaning reveals.
Why clean before inspection or service?
Because a technician’s first diagnostic tool is his eyes, and a dirty machine defeats it. Hydraulic seepage looks like every other dark streak on a filthy machine. A hairline crack in a boom weld disappears under caked clay. A chafed hose, a weeping cylinder rod seal, a failing final drive, a rodent nest in the engine bay: all obvious on clean iron and invisible on dirty iron. Cleaning before a service interval, an annual inspection, a warranty claim or a pre-purchase inspection turns guesswork into observation. Techs also work faster on a machine that is not shedding mud into their eyes.
How does cleaning fit into rental turnaround?
Rental is a presentation business, and a unit that arrives on a jobsite dirty invites damage disputes at return, because nobody can prove what was already there.
Turnaround cleaning does three jobs at once: it makes the unit presentable, it documents condition at check-out, and it exposes damage from the last rental while it is still traceable. Rental yards usually set it up as a standing arrangement, the same way fleet washing accounts are scheduled.
Why do equipment managers pay to clean a machine that works in dirt?
Because dirt on a machine costs money in ways that show up on a P&L. A caked machine sells for less. It hides leaks, so your techs find failures late instead of early. It cannot go back out of a rental yard looking like the last customer abused it. And packed mud, grease and rock in an undercarriage adds weight, holds moisture against steel and accelerates wear on the most expensive components on the machine.
Heavy equipment washing is not cosmetic work on this class of iron. It is inspection prep, resale prep and turnaround prep.
Frequently asked questions about heavy equipment cleaning
Do you come to our yard or jobsite?
Yes. Shazam Detailing is mobile, so the crew comes to your yard, shop lot or storage site and cleans machines where they sit, which avoids paying for a lowboy move just to wash iron. The Greenbrier shop at 2348 Industrial Drive is available during business hours if you would rather bring something in.
Will pressure washing damage seals, wiring or decals?
Not when the machine is cleaned by someone who knows where the sensitive areas are. Seals, bearing housings, electrical connectors and control modules are worked with controlled pressure, distance and product rather than direct blasting. Serial plates and safety decals are cleaned, not stripped, so the machine stays properly labeled.
How dirty is too dirty?
No machine is too far gone to improve, but heavily packed undercarriages and years of accumulated grease take longer and are priced accordingly. Be honest on the phone about what the machine actually looks like. A realistic description gets you a realistic quote and a crew that arrives with the right plan.
Can you clean equipment before an auction or a listing photo shoot?
That is one of the most common reasons customers call. Schedule it before your photos, and leave a buffer so any touch-up work the cleaning uncovers can be handled first. Consignment deadlines fill up, so call as soon as you know the sale date.
Do you handle farm and construction machines too?
Yes. Construction equipment cleaning covers active jobsites, concrete splatter and demobilization, and farm equipment cleaning covers combines, tractors and post-harvest work. Mixed yards holding machines, pickups and trailers are handled on one visit.
