What makes exotic car detailing different?
Mostly it is what does not happen. No automatic wash. No spinning brushes. No one-size wheel cleaner. No aggressive polishing on paint that has not been assessed first.
The materials on a modern exotic are less forgiving than on a mass-market vehicle. Soft paint marks easily. Exposed carbon fiber has a clear coat over the weave that can be burned through. Alcantara mats and flattens if it is scrubbed. Piano-black trim scratches easily. Satin and matte finishes cannot be polished at all without changing their appearance permanently.
The other difference is process: slow down, look at what is actually in front of you, and tell the owner what you find before working on it, including the parts worth leaving alone.
How is an exotic car washed?
By hand, every time, with the wash itself treated as the step where most damage happens.
The vehicle is pre-rinsed to lift grit before anything touches it, washed with clean media that is rinsed constantly so debris is not dragged across the panel, and dried without wiping loose contamination across soft paint. Wheels are cleaned with products chosen for the specific finish, because diamond-cut, painted, satin and forged wheels respond differently, and the wrong acidic cleaner permanently stains a wheel that costs four figures to replace. Lower splitters, side skirts and diffusers get hand attention, since they collect the most road film.
What is paint correction, and does the car need it?
Paint correction is machine polishing that removes a controlled amount of clear coat to level out swirl marks, wash marks, water spot etching and light scratches. Done well it transforms how a finish reflects light. Done carelessly it removes clear coat that cannot be put back.
The assessment comes first: what the defects actually are, whether they sit in the clear coat or below it, whether any panel has been repainted, and how much correction is safe. Some cars need a single refinement stage, some need several, and some are best left largely alone. There is no way to add clear coat back after polishing, which is why the honest version of this conversation includes what will not be corrected.

Is ceramic coating worth it on an exotic?
Often, yes, for a specific reason: it makes safe washing easier, and unsafe washing is what damages these cars.
A ceramic coating is a durable protective layer applied over corrected paint. It resists chemical etching from bird droppings and bug residue, and it releases dirt more readily so the wash requires less contact with the paint. On soft, easily marred paint, that reduction in contact is the real benefit.
Coating pricing starts at $1,000 and above, driven by vehicle size and, more significantly, by how much correction the paint needs first. A coating locks in whatever the finish looks like underneath it, so prep is most of the job.
How are carbon fiber, Alcantara and premium leather treated?
Each one gets a different approach, and the failures are different too.
Exposed carbon fiber is clear-coated composite. It clouds and yellows with UV exposure, and it can be burned through at edges and high points during polishing. It is worked lightly, with the edges respected.
Alcantara and suede are cleaned with a light, controlled method that lifts soil without saturating or flattening the nap. Alcantara’s published care guidance warns against solvent-based cleaners and heavy scrubbing, and once the fibers are matted, they do not stand back up. Steering wheels and shift areas are the usual problem spots, because hand oils build there.
Premium and aniline leather is cleaned gently and conditioned appropriately. Softer, lightly finished leathers absorb dye transfer from clothing and stain more readily than the coated leather in a family sedan, and aggressive cleaners strip them.

How do you care for a car in storage or a collection?
Stored cars have their own problems, and none of them are dirt. Moisture is the main one. Leather that is not conditioned before a long dormancy dries out, and brake dust left on wheels over a winter etches into the finish.
